So people say you're different
I say they're not to blame
Society teaches others
We're all supposed to be the same
How glad I am you're different
Miraculous in the least
You've fought battles in your body
From your head down to your feet
What is spina bifida?
It ranges drastically by far
And while it does not define you
It's part of who you are
Wether you walk, crawl, or roll
You'll show inspiration to the rest
So while, yes, you are different
You will never be less
While your struggles may be more obvious
We all have struggles too
We all need some miracles
And that miracle is you
From Dustin and Aryanna
And from Daddy and Me
Along with God and all the people
Whose support is always seen
We love you, Mira Cole
And that will never change
You are Mommy's hero
You inspire me every day
I love you, Mira Cole McGuirk
Love, Mommy
About Me
- Caytie
- United States
- My fiance (Joe) and I (Caytie) just delivered our third child. We have a son named Dustin, age 4, a daughter named Aryanna, age 1, and our new little bundle's name is Mira, and she has been diagnosed with spina bifida. She has a myelomeningocele, a chiari malformation, hydrocephalus, and a club foot. She had surgery the day after she was born on her myelomeningocele, and surgery when she was 6 days old to place a shunt in her brain. She is facing more surgeries, a lifetime of recovery and monitoring, and we will all be facing the journey of spina bifida. Prayers and kind thoughts are always welcome, and if our story can help others, that would mean the world to us. Spina bifida is a fairly common birth defect, but there's nothing normal about facing potential danger with your child. So this is our story, the journey of spina bifida, as we live it.
